Who deserves a tax cut more: the top 2 percent — whose wages and benefits are higher than ever, and among whose ranks are the CEOs and Wall Street mavens whose antics have sliced jobs and wages and nearly destroyed the American economy — or the rest of us?

Not a bad issue for Democrats to run on…

Robert, it sounds great and as usual I find myself in agreement with you. My whole problem is thus: The Democrats and Republicans are flip sides of the same coin, economically anyway. We know they’re all receiving huge corporate donations for their campaigns, regardless of party. So what should we do? Well I hate to say it, but anyone who votes against ending the Bush tax cuts or votes against tax cuts for the middle (and lower!) class should lose their re-election campaign. If that means the Democrats lose seats, well that sucks, to be sure. But I’m tired of this good cop/bad cop crap going on in Washington.

You want to know what the Democrats could have done to ensure their majority, not just this midterm election but in 2012 and possibly beyond? They could have passed a healthcare bill with teeth (code language for public option) and a financial regulatory bill reminiscent of the types of bills passed during FDR’s administration. Now, it’s too late. There was a window of opportunity there, the Republicans were reeling, Americans were excited and hopeful. But the Democrats weren’t quick enough, and the Republicans pounced on America’s unease and exploited it as only they know how.

Sorry for rambling, what I’m trying to say is I think we’re screwed.
