By the way...
You do realize that the man ESPN chose to deliver their “apology” was himself an Asian-American, right? You also should know that this “apology” was issued as a statement, not an apology. It was also not made on their homepage, but rather in the statements/corrections area of the website. The whole thing stinks.

Anonymous asked: Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert not talking about this incident does not equate to the propagation of racism against Asian-Americans. Considering the fact that this issue has sparked national headlines would indicate that people do care. Why you're choosing to single out a Comedy Central program is beyond me. If you directed it towards CNN, MSNBC, or hell, even Fox I would get. But The Daily...

Oh, and By The Way
Those of you insisting this story is “old” or not as important as any other, I invite you to ask Jeremy Lin or just about any other Asian-American whether they think it’s an unimportant or old issue.

jalvear replied to your post: Is It Just Me? Why do you think that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have to mention a certain news story from when they were on vacation? Doesn’t usually happen. And it doesn’t mean anything that they decided not to. It happened on Friday, a day they’re not on anyway. And I didn’t say they had to do anything. I just assumed that they would at very least...

liberalchristian replied to your post: Is It Just Me? Problems are only acknowledged if Stewart or Colbert are talking about them? They are comedy shows, foremost. It’s not their job to do anything else. Is that what I said? I don’t remember saying that Stewart and Colbert validate anything for me, nor did I imply that they are the authority on what constitutes a “problem”. ...

Is It Just Me?
Has anyone else noticed the glaring absence of any coverage by either Stewart or Colbert of ESPN’s racist remarks about Jeremy Lin last weekend? Colbert even mentioned Lin last night, only to then move on to some stupid pointless crap about not giving a high five to a guy dressed as a conquistador (what the fuck was the point of that, anyway?). I have to say, I’m disappointed in both...

Why Might Iran Want a Nuclear Weapon?
mohandasgandhi: savagemike: politicalprof: Well, here’s one observation: The United States has never so much as spat at a nation that possesses a nuclear weapon. Just a thought. Well we have cut off all economic ties to NK. We had a 40-year standoff with the former USSR. We tried to invade Cuba when the Soviets put nukes there. I could go on, but yeah you’re basically wrong. Iran has...

In 1979, McDonald’s introduced the Happy Meal. Sometime after that, it was decided that the Bible teaches that human life begins at conception. Ask any American evangelical, today, what the Bible says about abortion and they will insist that this is what it says. (Many don’t actually believe this, but they know it is the only answer that won’t get them in trouble.) They’ll be a little fuzzy on...

shortformblog: We again apologize, especially to Mr. Lin. His accomplishments are a source of great pride to the Asian-American community, including the Asian-American employees at ESPN. Through self-examination, improved editorial practices and controls, and response to constructive criticism, we will be better in the future. Good on them for taking it seriously enough to do something right...

And by the way
inothernews: if ESPN really did want to “apologize” for their racist “Chink In The Armor” headline regarding Jeremy Lin, they would at least put it front-and-center on their website. Instead, the “apology” is buried near the bottom of ESPN’s home page… under “corrections.” Maybe ESPN can ask all of their Asian-American reporters and anchors how they feel about it. Oh wait. Hey assholes,...

Significant anniversaries are solemnly commemorated — Japan’s attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, for example. Others are ignored, and we can often learn valuable lessons from them about what is likely to lie ahead. Right now, in fact. Noam Chomsky
